Galatasaray stadium With over 10,000 solar panels installed on its roof is a tremendous achievement
Amid the energy crisis intensifying worldwide because of the Ukraine war, Galatasaray has broken Guinness World Record for generating 63 percent of its stadium energy, daily Milliyet has reported.
The solar panels on the roof of the stadium went down in history as the world's largest stadium-mounted solar power plant in terms of its installed power. With 10,404 solar panels and 4.2 megawatts of electricity production, Galatasaray will save 4.5 million kilowatts annually. The Solar Power Plant will contribute more than 1 Billion TL to Galatasaray at the end of 25 years.
Bikem Kanık, the vice chairperson of the club, said that the panels will provide 63% of the energy used in the stadium, and noted that Galatasaray will be saving 4.5 million kilowatts of energy per year.
The power plant will curtail the emissions of approximately 3,250 tons of CO2 each year. It will avoid the discharge of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of planting 200,000 trees for emissions removal from the atmosphere for over 25 years, while also contributing to the protection of the environment.
Ron Shen, VP of International Sales and Services at GoodWe, commented: “The reliability and quality of our products are of primary importance for us. We are proud to be able to supply our high-quality solar system inverters to one of the leading energy solution providers in Turkey and thus further advance the energy transition.”
