Since 2020 consumption of renewable energy has been increasing year after year in the last five years, reaching a record high amount of 11.6 quadrillion British thermal units.

Renewable resources are virtually inexhaustible over time but limited in the amount of energy that they provide at a certain point. Renewable energy can play an important role in US Energy Security and in reducing greenhouse gas emission and energy imports.

Since 2020 consumption of renewable energy has been increasing year after year in the last five years, reaching a record high amount of 11.6 quadrillion British thermal units.Wind energy accounted for 26%, Hydroelectric power by 22%, wood and waste energy by 22%, Biofuels by 17%,Solar energy by 11% and so on. The role of renewable energy in the US electricity generation mix will increase from 21% in 2020 to 42% by 2050 according to the Annual Energy Outlook 2021 from the EIA (Energy Information Administration).

The renewable share is estimated to increase as nuclear and coal-fired generation will drop. By 2030, renewables will collectively outdo natural gas to be the dominant source of generation in the United States. Solar power will contribute towards being the largest source of renewable energy in the United States by 2040 followed by Wind. This is a huge breakthrough for the country that is slowly moving towards a sustainable goal.
