As the travel ban is slowly being lifted, pack your bags and go on a long awaited vacation! GOOGLE MAPS, our biggest travelling companion is our one stop to help us with our routes. Google has announced recently that its route – finding algorithm on Google maps will offer a low carbon footprint drive. Let’s read on how Google through technology will help reduce emissions and how algorithms contribute to the above.

It is no surprise that human activity is the cause for carbon emissions and its reduction is our greatest need of the hour. As the latest add on, a new option to reduce carbon emissions on Google Maps is presented to the user. Usually, we get two options – the faster route or the route that avoids motorways. In a carbon – conscious society, a third environment friendly option will soon be in operation that presents to us the most fuel – efficient route.

According to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, the new carbon option may help reduce global carbon emissions by 1 million metric tons, which is equivalent to 200,000 cars removed from the road. Global emissions could be reduced by clever algorithms and AI ; also making practical choices and other alternatives to reduce co2 without limiting the standard of living. According to Electropages, The use of algorithms in the case of Google to reduce CO2 could now be the spark that ignites a new wave of innovation in CO2 reduction. “Climate change is no longer a distant threat,” said Pichai. “It’s increasingly local and personal.

Around the world, wildfires, flooding and other extreme weather continue to affect our health, our economies and our future together on our planet. We need urgent and meaningful solutions to address this pressing challenge. ”Although it is nearly impossible to fully eliminate Co2 as our everyday life revolves around it – we can make small changes that will go a long way.
